I'm drawn to collage and montage for its ability to see many things at once. We do not look at the world with a fixed viewpoint. Our eyes flit about taking in many things at once. We look around and what is not absorbed at once, is sometimes stored in our memory and new associations come about as we layer these views and memories over one another. The subconcious and conscious mind linked.
The camera can, by its nature, only see fragments, one thing at a time, a monocular view constrained by the four walls of the frame. With the world in constant flux, there are indeed multiple scenes and events occurring at the same time, layers upon layers of central and peripheral information flowing by and being registered by the eye. I'm splitting, splintering and and reassembling this multitude, so that the image is no longer just a replication of reality, but represents and interprets the layering of thought.
